Bartlett City Schools proudly recognizes three exceptional educators whose dedication, leadership, and commitment to students exemplify the very best of our district. Our three division winners are:

Lorraine Gatlin
Oak Elementary School Elementary
Division Teacher of the Year

Lorraine Gatlin is a highly dedicated educator whose instructional practice is grounded in reflection, data-driven decision-making, and a deep commitment to student success. As a fourth-grade Math and Science teacher at Oak Elementary School, she creates a supportive and engaging classroom environment where students are challenged academically and encouraged to build confidence in their abilities.

With 18 years of experience teaching grades K–6, Lorraine brings a broad instructional perspective that allows her to design purposeful, standards-aligned lessons tailored to meet the diverse needs of her students. She consistently adjusts instruction based on assessment data, differentiates learning experiences, and promotes critical thinking and problem-solving.

Lorraine values collaboration and works closely with colleagues to strengthen instructional practices and support schoolwide goals. She also prioritizes strong partnerships with families, recognizing that clear communication is essential to student growth. Her dedication to education, family, and community continues to make a meaningful impact at Oak Elementary and throughout Bartlett City Schools.

Meagan Fertig
Elmore Park Middle School
Middle Division Teacher of the Year

Meagan Fertig is an seventh-grade English Language Arts teacher at Elmore Park Middle School with eight years of teaching experience. Known for her structured yet supportive approach, Mrs. Fertig fosters a classroom culture rooted in respect, engagement, and high expectations, where students focus on personal growth rather than competition.

Her instructional philosophy centers on developing critical thinking skills through reading and writing, supported by intentional planning and data-driven instruction. Mrs. Fertig challenges students to analyze, question, and communicate effectively, skills that prepare them for success in an ever-changing world.

Throughout her career, she has been recognized for instructional excellence and leadership, including being named Bartlett City Schools Middle School Technology Teacher of the Year in 2020. She has secured multiple grants to expand learning opportunities, including funding for hands-on classroom tools and ensuring equitable access to field trip experiences. Beyond the classroom, Mrs. Fertig sponsors the Eagle Ambassadors, helping students build leadership, confidence, and character. Her professionalism, dedication, and genuine care for students make her a standout educator and leader.

Sheron Hicks
Bartlett Ninth Grade Academy
High School Division Teacher of the Year

Sheron Hicks is a passionate and service-driven educator whose career spans 20 years across multiple middle and high school settings. Currently in her seventh year at Bartlett Ninth Grade Academy, Ms. Hicks is recognized for creating a welcoming, supportive classroom environment where every student feels seen, valued, and capable of success.

Ms. Hicks believes teaching is an act of service and approaches her work with warmth, professionalism, and unwavering dedication. She has embraced new instructional challenges, including teaching Honors English, with enthusiasm and a collaborative spirit that strengthens both student learning and her department.

Ms. Hicks has been praised by her collogues for her compassion, teamwork, and positive energy. She goes beyond the classroom by supporting students at extracurricular events and building strong relationships that inspire confidence and trust. Her ability to balance high expectations with genuine care exemplifies what it means to be an exceptional educator. Ms. Hicks’ impact on students, colleagues, and the school community makes her a truly deserving Teacher of the Year.
