Remembering fallen heroes

Tre Hargett, Tennessee Secretary of State, was the guest speaker Monday at Bartlett’s Memorial Day Ceremony at Veterans Park. He – along with two WWII veterans, Bartlett Mayor A. Keith McDonald and Steve Sims Jr., American Legion Post 249 Commander – placed a wreath at the park’s monument at the conclusion of the event.
Susan Spain, band director of West Collierville Middle School, played taps. Geoffrey Meece of Bartlett recited an original poem honoring a late family member who was a veteran. The Bartlett Police Department’s Honor Guard presented the colors at the ceremony, and Joe Walker, Post 249 chaplain, led the opening prayer. Glenda Vilseck, past Tennessee state president for the American Legions Auxiliary, led the Pledge of Allegiance. Mayor McDonald provided the closing remarks.
