We lost Phil Clark this past January and are proud to see his legacy displayed, in the new signage on the indoor facility at W.J. Freeman Park, for all to see. For those that didn’t know Phil Clark, here is a little history.
Phil Clark’s coaching legacy is unmatched—he won over 990 high school games and captured five state titles, making history as the only coach in Tennessee to lead three different schools to championships (Sky‑View, Germantown, Bartlett)
He began his career as a standout catcher for the University of Memphis, joining in 1976—where he helped set program records before later having his No. 5 jersey retired and being inducted into the M Club Hall of Fame in 2001.
His accolades include multiple Hall of Fame inductions: Tennessee Baseball Coaches Assoc., M Club, BCA, Memphis Sports, Amateur Sports, and TSSAA in 2024
Phil was more than a winning coach – he was a mentor, friend, father and pillar of the community. His impact lives on in every person he guided and every life he touched.
