The recipe for success for the Collierville Dragons Friday night to pull off the win against the Bartlett Panthers was solid quarterback play and getting to the opposition’s signal caller.
The Dragon passing combo of Bradley Stubbs and Grant Troutman combined for 345 yards in the air and three touchdowns pass in front of the Collierville Football Stadium crowd.
Meanwhile the Collierville defense rang the bell of Panther passer Kam Alexander six times in the backfield leading to the Dragons 29-19 victory.
Another part of Troutman’s big night was a touchdown run. Emmanuel Palmer was the favorite passing target of the Dragon signal callers with five receptions and 178 yards. Palmer crossed the goal line twice during the night including the Stubbs 80-yard touchdown pass.
Stubbs was also on the receiving end of a touchdown pass on the night and picked up 112 yards through the air.
The Collierville (3-0, 1-0 in Region 8-6A) defensive players did their part in the 10-point victory with players like Samuel Iroh, Aj Greene, Tristian Euell, Jayden Majors, Finnegan Coffey, Caleb Oliver, Joseph Myers and Bryson Johnson all getting tackles for loss.
Iroh had three of the Dragons sacks on the night totalling 12 yards. M. Smith Jr., Euell and Johnson also participated in the sack party. Despite 26 first downs, and running 75 plays, the Panthers (1-1, 0-1) were also limited by penalties throughout the night.
The Panthers will try to bounce back hosting the Arlington Tigers this Friday night. The Dragons will try to remain unbeaten on the season hosting Douglass this Friday.
