Football Roundup: Notebook, All-SEC, More Watch Lists

Hey, we’ve got some real news and some pretend news for you this morning. Let’s start with the meaty stuff.
In today’s Journal I have a football notebook (CLICK HERE), with the topics being Malcolm Johnson‘s injury, Johnthan Banks and Matt Balis. More to come from yesterday’s interviews later, both on the blog and in the paper.
• OK, now for the fluff. The coaches’ All-SEC preseason team was released this morning, and three Bulldogs made the cut. Johnthan Banks made the first team defense at cornerback, and he also is a second-team specialist as an all-purpose player (he returns punts). Offensive guard Gabe Jackson was named second team, and defensive tackle Josh Boyd made the third team.
CLICK HERE for the entire list, which has lots of Alabama and LSU players on it.
• Speaking of Banks, he’s also on the watch list for the Nagurski Trophy, which was announced today and is given annually to the nation’s best defensive player. He’s also on the Bednarik Award watch list, which also goes to the top defensive player.
There are 84 players on the Nagurski list, compared to 66 on the Bednarik.
The Outland Trophy watch list was also revealed today. That goes to the nation’s top interior lineman. Boyd and Jackson are both on the 71-man list
