Bartlett track athlete recovering after heart attack

A GoFundMe page has been started for a Bartlett High track athlete who suffered a heart attack after a race Saturday, Sept. 10, in Pensacola, Florida.

The Bartlett High School Cross Country Booster Club started the fund for Gabe Higginbottom.

Higginbottom, a junior, was transported to the University of Florida Shands Heart and Vascular Hospital in Gainesville, where doctors found his right artery was completely blocked, according to information provided by the booster club.

He underwent an angioplasty procedure and doctors then inserted two stents and found two blood clots.

Cross Country coach Kris Harman and Gabe’s mother, Edrika, remain by Gabe’s side as he is recovering at the Gainesville hospital.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with this young man and his family during his time of recovery,” Bartlett City Schools said in a statement.

The GoFundMe page is to help the family offset medical bills.
