The Third Annual Millington Veteran’s Day Parade is scheduled to be held Nov. 5 starting at 10:30 a.m. Back in 2014, the parade returned to Flag City after nearly 40 years.
For decades personnel from NSA Mid-South and several retired veterans left their Millington homes to travel north to Covington or south to Memphis to participate in Veteran’s Day parades. Then the city of Millington along with VFW Post 7175 brought back the procession honoring those who served.
The public is invited to come out again to pay tribute to our local veterans during the 2016 Millington Veteran’s Day Parade.
In years past, dozens of groups marched, rode, and drove in the parade like the Millington Police Department and Millington Central High School NJROTC and Band. Participants have traveled from Memphis, Tipton County and Millington like Rural/Metro Ambulance, the American Legion, Combat Vets Association and students from Millington Middle, E.A. Harrold and Millington Elementary.
The parade has featured antique cars, motorcycle groups, boy scouts, a color guards, marching seamen from our own Navy Base and local sponsors.
The parade route will be Navy Road from Newport Avenue to Easley Street. Staging will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Newport Avenue. There will be no parking in the staging area; there is ample parking along the parade route. You may wish to park near the end of the parade route and walk or arrange a ride to the line up. Navy Road will be closed to traffic at 9 a.m., so use Easley Street to Nelson Avenue and take a right into the staging area. Assemble your group in your assigned area by 10 a.m. Groups arriving after 10 a.m. will not be allowed to participate. The parade will start at 10:30 a.m., making a left on to Navy Road and traveling east until arriving at Easley Street. For more information, call (901) 873-5770.
