On Monday, Bartlett Mayor A. Keith McDonald issued the following proclamation:
“WHEREAS, garden clubs across the United States meet and organize to share their love of gardening with each other and with the community at large through meetings, correspondence and publications. Since their inception, garden clubs have promoted gardening education and related environmental issues to its members and the gardening public through charitable, educational and scientific means; and
“WHEREAS, gardening promotes a healthy lifestyle, reduces stress and provides tangible rewards for diligent work; and
“WHEREAS, The Bartlett Garden Club is a part of National Garden Club, Inc., which is the largest volunteer gardening organization in the world, and it sponsors National Garden Week each year beginning the first Sunday in June and has designated the week of June 6-10, 2016 as National Garden Week.
“NOW, THEREFORE, I, A. Keith McDonald, Mayor of the City of Bartlett, Tennessee, do hereby set aside and proclaim the week of June 6-10, 2016 as ‘National Garden Week’ in Bartlett, and urge all citizens to participate by planting new trees, flowers and shrubs and recognize the efforts and importance of gardening in all of our lives.”
Floral displays will be on hand in Bartlett City Hall, courtesy of the Bartlett Garden Club, all this week.
