An Arlington educator is among the finalists recently announced for the Tennessee Department of Education’s Teacher of the Year program.
Tonya Hawkins, fourth-grade teacher at Arlington Elementary School was the finalist for the Shelby/Municipals region in West Tennessee.
The Teacher of the Year program honors outstanding teachers who enrich the lives of Tennessee children and demonstrate exceptional gains in student achievement.
The program is intended to promote effective teaching practices, engage regional teachers of the year in education policy making, provide a network for sharing best practices and encourage professionalism.
