Lakeland standout signs with Mississippi College

Briarcrest senior Tyler Shamblin of Lakeland signed a Letter of Intent last week to play football at Mississippi College in Jackson, Miss.

Shamblin is joining the Choctaws as a preferred walk-on and has received numerous scholarships.

He plans on majoring in finance. Shamblin played safety and defensive back for the past four years at Briarcrest. He was awarded the National Football Foundation Scholar Award and named Second Team Defense All-Region and Player of the Week.

Coach Brian Stewart said that Tyler has many intangibles that make him a great football player.

“He not only plays, but practices with intense passion that is so infectious to those around him,” he said. “He is a class-act student athlete that has been invaluable here at Briarcrest. Every team needs a Tyler Shamblin. What a blessing he has been for us and will be as a Choctaw for Mississippi College.”

Shamblin is the son of John and Beth Shamblin. His brother, Connor, and his grandfather, Ira Singleton, were also on hand for the big event.

He attends Briarcrest Baptist Church in Cordova and is active in the youth ministry there.
