The Shelby County Fire Department rallied to a report of a car crashing into an apartment building just before 10 p.m. on July 7. Initially, responders thought an occupant was trapped inside.
Dispatchers of the Shelby County Fire Department sent engine companies, a med squad, a battalion chief and ambulance to the scene. The accident was at the Appling Lakes apartments in Cordova, and the building is on Unbridle Way.
The first firefighters and emergency personnel confirmed that a car was about 15 feet inside of a ground floor apartment but that no one was trapped. However, the crash broke the plumbing piles, and water was leaking into the apartment.
The person who rented the apartment was taken to Baptist Hospital in East Memphis in fair condition with some lacerations. Two families were displaced by the accident.
The drier was shaken up but otherwise uninjured.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is investigating why the car veered off the parking area, over the lawn and then through the building’s front wall.
