13th annual Pickin’ Picnic

Children were scampering around the Pickin' Picnic almost too fast to capture under the twilight sky, but young Harrison (above) paused for a moment with a pretty little girl and Lynn Jones' wailing harmonica just beyond him.

Balmy weather, soulful music under the stars, and a relaxed evening with old friends and family — Friday’s 13th annual Pickin’ Picnic in Bartlett had all the right elements to make it a “lucky 13.”

Bartlett Performing Arts and Conference Center (BPACC) hosted the popular music festival on the grounds next to the theater on Appling Lake.

BPACC director Ron Jewell said, “The weather was outstanding and gave us all a chance to get back indoors after a long winter and certainly a rainy spring.”

The free outdoor festival invited local residents to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets to enjoy the music.

Jewell said the crowd arrived early and stayed late, and it swelled to about 750 to 800 people at its peak. The mix included children, families and even young professionals who brought their parents along, Jewell said. “It was a great family alternative to the downtown big festival.”
