Shelby County invites citizens to volunteer
The Shelby County Office of Preparedness invites citizens to serve their county in 2014 as volunteer for Shelby Cares or the Reserve Program. Applicants must be 18 years or older to apply.
Shelby Cares Reserves: Under the leadership of coordinator Terry Donald and after training, these volunteers may be called in to assist the agency during sheltering operations. Shelby Cares Reserves may be asked to help set up a shelter, make photo ID cards, or assist with feeding and clean up at a shelter. Those interested can request an application via email to email@example.com.
Reserve Program: Lead by coordinator Eugene Jones, the Reserves volunteer a minimum of four hours monthly. They teach the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) classes and give disaster preparedness presentations in the county. They operate a weekly ham radio net and help the staff during Emergency Operation Center activations. A monthly meeting and training are required.
