Organized by the school’s librarians, teachers and students wore Christmas colors to celebrate the reading of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” Thursday and costumes were worn on Friday to replicate “The Cat in the Hat.”

The annual event is to promote the value of reading to young people.

Ellendale Elementary representative, Courtney Sims, dressed as the Cat from “The Cat in the Hat” gets a lift from Memphis Redbirds’ mascot “Rocky the Redbird.” Schools throughout the country took part in the event to promote reading in schools.
