JPMorgan Chase launches a stock market rally

NEW YORK — Strong earnings from JPMorgan launched a stock market rally that gave the Dow Jones industrial average its best day this month. The Dow jumped 204 points, snapping a six-day slump, to close Friday at 12,777. JPMorgan surged 6 percent, the biggest gain in the Dow by far. Rienzi man dies in Alcorn County traffic accident

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is still investigating an accident in Alcorn County that claimed the life of a Rienzi man, according to Trooper Ray Hall. Troopers were dispatched around 12:15 p.m. Saturday, to the crash scene on US 72 approximately 6 miles west of Corinth, in Alcorn County. USM sets private fundraising mark

HATTIESBURG — The University of Southern Mississippi raised a record $20.2 million in private gifts for the fiscal year 2012, which ended June 30. Officials say the figure represents a 46 percent increase over the previous record $13.9 million in fiscal 2006.
